BBB lists businesses with trust ratings. That says nothing about whether the contact email is deliverable.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a nonprofit that rates businesses based on complaint history, transparency, and responsiveness. A business with an A+ rating has demonstrated it handles complaints well. That rating does not mean its listed email address is current, actively monitored, or deliverable.
BBB profiles are a useful source for identifying local businesses that have been operating long enough to accumulate a rating. For outreach, the trust signal BBB provides tells you about business reputation β not about email quality. The email data still needs verification before use.
What BBB business profiles contain.
| Field | Present in most profiles | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | Yes | Primary identifier |
| Accreditation status | Yes | Accredited or not accredited |
| BBB rating (A+ to F) | Yes | Based on complaint handling and transparency |
| Business category | Yes | Industry classification |
| Physical address | Yes | May be outdated if business has moved |
| Phone number | Yes | More reliably updated than email |
| Website URL | Yes | Primary path to email discovery |
| Email address | Sometimes | Directly listed on a minority of profiles |
| Years in business | Yes | Useful for gauging listing age and stability |
| Number of complaints | Yes | Indicates business activity level |
Email addresses appear directly on a portion of BBB profiles, but not the majority. For profiles without a listed email, the website URL is the next step β visit the site, look for a contact page, and run an email finder against the domain if needed.
Why BBB accreditation does not equal a deliverable email.
| Quality risk | Why it happens |
|---|---|
| Stale profile email | Business submitted its email when claiming the BBB profile, possibly years ago, and has not updated it since |
| Generic shared inbox | Small businesses commonly list info@ or contact@ as the BBB contact address |
| Website-only contact path | Many profiles list only a URL, not an email β the actual email requires a separate discovery step |
