Yelp is a review and listing platform. It is not an email directory.
Yelp lists millions of local businesses with contact information, hours, photos, and customer reviews. Businesses claim their Yelp page to manage their public presence β but the contact information they publish is usually a phone number and a website URL, not an email address.
This is the defining characteristic of Yelp as a data source: you cannot scrape a list of email addresses from Yelp the way you might expect. The email discovery step comes after Yelp β from the business website the listing links to. That extra step changes both the workflow and the quality profile of the resulting list.
What Yelp actually provides in a listing.
| Field | Available in Yelp listings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | Yes | Usually accurate; business-maintained |
| Category | Yes | Yelp-assigned, sometimes multiple categories |
| Address and hours | Yes | Can be stale if business does not update listing |
| Phone number | Yes | Most common direct contact method on Yelp |
| Photos | Yes | Customer and owner-submitted |
| Reviews and ratings | Yes | Core Yelp feature |
| Website URL | Often | Links to business website when provided |
| Direct email address | Rarely | Not a standard Yelp listing field |
The website URL is the bridge from Yelp to email. When a listing includes a website, you can visit that site to find a contact email in the footer, contact page, or about page. When there is no website listed, email discovery is very difficult from Yelp alone.
The contact path from a Yelp listing to a verified email address.
Yelp does not give you an email. The path to an email has multiple steps:
This path is longer than working from a directory that lists emails directly. For high-volume Yelp-sourced campaigns, the email discovery step is typically automated using a finder tool that extracts addresses from websites or generates educated guesses against the company domain.
Quality risks specific to Yelp-sourced leads.
High-turnover businesses: Yelp has dense coverage of restaurants, cafes, bars, salons, and service businesses β categories with high ownership turnover. A verified email for a restaurant may become invalid within months if the business changes ownership or closes. Yelp-sourced lists for these categories have faster decay rates than lists from professional services directories.
