Here is how to check one email address before you send to it. Open the Email Checker page on BillionVerify. There is nothing to sign up for. You get 20 free checks every 24 hours. Scroll down to the form. It runs a real check against the mail server, not just a format test. Type the address you want to check, and click Check email. No email is sent. This address comes back as catch-all. The domain accepts mail for any address, so the server can't prove this mailbox is real. Treat it as uncertain. Below the result, every check gets its own line. Syntax, MX records and the SMTP mailbox pass here. Disposable, catch-all and role are reported separately, so one score can't hide a risk. Next, try an address from a throwaway inbox service. This one is disposable. Expect a bounce, or no engagement at all. It is also flagged as a role account, because hello is a shared name rather than a person. And last, a Gmail address that doesn't exist. Invalid. The mail server rejected this mailbox, so don't send to it. Syntax and MX records still pass. Only the SMTP mailbox check fails. A format check would have let this one through.
