BeenVerified is a US people search website built on public records. You enter a name, a phone number, an email or a street address. BeenVerified returns a report about the person behind it. Many people spell it "Been Verified", with a space. Both spellings lead to beenverified.com.
This guide covers what BeenVerified is and what each people search type does. It explains where the public records come from and what a membership costs. It also covers what the law says you can't do with a report. Company facts come from BeenVerified's own site, checked in October 2026. We link to each source so you can confirm the current details.
We are not affiliated with BeenVerified. BillionVerify is an email verification service. Many BeenVerified users end up with an email they want to contact. Near the end, we show how to check that email before you write.

BeenVerified sells memberships to consumers. It is not a private investigator. It is also not a background check company for employers or landlords. That second point matters a lot. It gets its own section below.
What does "Been Verified" mean?
The name hints at a quick check before you deal with someone. A date. A seller. A caller. A new neighbor. BeenVerified does not check ID documents. It shows what public records say about a name, number or home.
Is BeenVerified the same as beenverified.com?
Yes. BeenVerified is the brand. beenverified.com is the website. There are also apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android.
How Big Is BeenVerified?
BeenVerified publishes several size claims. Each one measures something different:
| Claim | Meaning | Where BeenVerified says it |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 million+ | Subscribers | About BeenVerified |
| 1,000,000+ | People helped | Is BeenVerified Legit? |
| 6 million+ | App downloads | Homepage |
| 400 million+ | People searched | Homepage |
| 15+ years | Time in business | Homepage |
| 2,500+ | Trustpilot reviews | Homepage |
These are the company's own claims. None of them is audited. Still, they place BeenVerified among the larger people search services in the US.
What You Can Search on BeenVerified
The BeenVerified homepage has one search box with twelve tabs. Each tab is a separate search. The headline above the box changes with the tab.

Screenshot: the BeenVerified homepage search box, Court Records tab.
| Tab | What you type |
|---|---|
| People | A full name, plus city and state |
| Phone | A phone number |
| An email | |
| Address | A street address |
| Vehicle | A VIN |
| Username | A username |
| Money | A name and a state |
| Obituaries | The name of someone who died |
| Court Records | A name, case number, party or court |
| Ancestry | An ancestor's name |
| Family Tree | Your name or a relative's |
| Fraud Scan | An IP address |
The About section counts it differently. It says one membership includes "8 products for the price of one." Those are people search, vehicle search, phone search, address search, email search, social media search, unclaimed money search and business search.
People search
A people search starts with a name. Per BeenVerified, a report "may contain public records, photos, ages, relatives, associates, assets, jobs and educational history." It may also show aliases, past homes and social profiles.
Reverse phone lookup
A reverse phone lookup starts with a number. Its phone reports "may include names, locations, spam scores, and helpful comments." Most people run a reverse phone lookup after an unknown call or text. Before you pay, check the number itself. Our phone number validator shows whether it is valid for its country and what line type it is. Our guide to the BeenVerified reverse phone lookup covers each step. A BeenVerified reverse phone lookup report can also link the number to a name and city.
Email lookup
The BeenVerified reverse email lookup starts with an email. It can show "the owner of the email address and associated details." A BeenVerified reverse email lookup report shows who may be behind an inbox. It does not tell you whether that inbox still works. We explain the difference later. For a no-cost first look, try our reverse email lookup. It reads the domain, organisation, mail routing and public profiles behind an inbox.
Address lookup
An address lookup needs a street address. BeenVerified lists "deed history, property details, value estimates, owner information and assessments." People run it before a move or a home purchase.
Vehicle lookup
A vehicle lookup needs a VIN. BeenVerified suggests it for used-car buyers who want to "search multiple VIN numbers."
Username search
A username search looks for accounts tied to one handle. It can "comb through hundreds of social media sites."
Unclaimed money search
The money tab looks for funds that states hold in a person's name. BeenVerified cites "as much as $70 billion in unclaimed money." Official state programs also let you search for free.
Obituaries, ancestry and family tree
Three tabs serve family research. Obituaries finds death notices. The other two help you trace relatives and build a tree. Each one starts from a name.
Court records
The Court Records tab has four modes: People, Case Number, Party Name and Court. It finds court cases tied to a name or a case.
Fraud scan
The Fraud Scan tab takes an IP address. Its headline asks, "Are those emails and calls legit?" It helps you judge where a suspicious contact came from.
Where BeenVerified Gets Its Public Records
BeenVerified does not create records. It gathers public records that already exist. Then it links them to a person, phone, home or car.
BeenVerified reports draw on "federal, state, and county sources." These include "court records, property data, contact information, criminal records, and more." It also names county assessor and clerk offices.
Public records are records that agencies must make available. BeenVerified's own public records guide explains the catch. Agencies "can limit how, where, and when to provide that access." You might need several websites or office visits for one person. A people search puts those public records in one report.
How accurate is BeenVerified?
BeenVerified is careful here. Accuracy, in its words, "can vary based on the quality and completeness of the underlying sources." Its footer adds that reports are "not necessarily 100% accurate, complete or up to date."
That honesty applies to every data service. Records lag behind real life. People move. Numbers get reassigned. Inboxes get abandoned. Two people can share a name in one city. Treat any report as a starting point. Then confirm the detail that matters.
How BeenVerified Works, Step by Step
Every people search on BeenVerified follows the same steps.
Step 1: Pick a tab
Open beenverified.com or the app. Choose People, Phone, Email, Address or another tab.
Step 2: Enter what you know
Type the name, number or VIN. For a people search, add a city or state. That narrows the matches.
Step 3: Choose the right match
A name often returns several people. Use age, location and relatives to pick the right one. Most mistakes happen here, so slow down.
Step 4: Open the report
The full report needs a membership or a trial. BeenVerified saves the reports you run. You can reopen them later in your account or the app.
Step 5: Confirm what matters
Read the report. Confirm the key facts from a second source before you act. You can also choose alerts when a report changes.
How Much Does BeenVerified Cost?
BeenVerified sells memberships, not single reports. In October 2026, BeenVerified pricing listed two plans:
| Plan | Price | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Month Membership | $36.89 per month | Every month until cancelled |
| 3 Month Membership | $23.98 per month, $71.94 upfront | Every 3 months until cancelled |

Screenshot: BeenVerified pricing.
BeenVerified promises "any plan, all features." Both plans include background reports, phone lookups, email lookups, address lookups and criminal and traffic records.
The BeenVerified free trial
What most people call the BeenVerified free trial is a 7-day trial for $1. BeenVerified's offers list it, with $32.89 per month after the trial. So the BeenVerified free trial is not fully free. It turns into a paid plan unless you cancel. Prices and offers change often, so check them on the day you sign up.
Does BeenVerified renew automatically?
Yes. BeenVerified states that "your membership will be automatically renewed to the same term you originally signed up for, until you cancel." If you cancel, access lasts until the paid term ends.
Is BeenVerified free?
Searching is free. The full report is not. It needs a membership or the BeenVerified free trial. If you need only one fact, try free government sources first. Many public records cost nothing to search.
What BeenVerified Can't Be Used For
This is the most important section in this guide.
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), BeenVerified does not count as a consumer reporting agency. The FCRA governs any background check used for jobs, housing, credit or insurance. Firms that supply those checks must follow strict rules. You can read the legal definition in 15 U.S.C. § 1681a.

Screenshot: BeenVerified's FCRA notice.
BeenVerified's FCRA notice is direct. It says "BeenVerified is not a consumer reporting agency." It bans these uses:
- Jobs: hiring, promotion or retention, including nannies and domestic workers.
- Housing: leasing a home or a commercial space.
- Education: judging someone for a school program or scholarship.
- Credit and insurance: deciding whether to issue either one.
- Customer accounts: checking whether a customer still meets account terms.
Breaking these rules "violates both our Terms & Conditions and the law," BeenVerified warns. It "can lead to possible criminal penalties." BeenVerified may also close accounts and report violators.
When you need a regulated background check
A BeenVerified background check is for personal curiosity and safety. It is not for hiring or renting. Think of a BeenVerified background check as a first look, not a verdict. For those decisions, hire a screening firm that follows the FCRA. BeenVerified's Do's and Don'ts lists more allowed and banned uses.
Can a BeenVerified background check be legal evidence?
No. BeenVerified warns its data "must not be solely relied upon for legal purposes." It calls the service "a tool for gathering preliminary information." For court matters, talk to a lawyer and use official public records.
What People Use BeenVerified For
BeenVerified gives its own examples of everyday use:
- Online dating: checking that a match is real.
- Unknown calls: running a reverse phone lookup on a missed call or text.
- Moving: looking up neighbors before you sign a lease.
- Used cars: running VIN checks before you buy.
- Reconnecting: finding old friends and lost relatives.
- Family safety: looking up someone who will drive your kids.
All of these are personal uses. None of them decides someone's job, home, credit or insurance. That line keeps a BeenVerified background check legal.
Is BeenVerified Legit?
Yes. BeenVerified is a real company with a long track record. It has run since 2007. It publishes its prices, terms, refund policy and FCRA limits.
BeenVerified answers the question itself on Is BeenVerified legit?. It points to its data sources, its years in business, its legal compliance and user feedback. It is also open about limits. Accuracy depends on the sources. Reports are not for FCRA uses.
Legit does not mean flawless. Common complaints about people search sites include old records and trials that renew into paid plans. Read the renewal terms first. Set a reminder if you start a trial.
Does BeenVerified notify the person you search?
No. BeenVerified states that "all searches and purchases are confidential - we don't notify anybody that you have looked them up."
Your BeenVerified Account
Many BeenVerified searches on Google are about the account, not the data. Here is a short guide to each task.
BeenVerified login and password
The login screen offers four ways in. You can use Apple, Google, a one-time email link, or an email with a password. Most login trouble comes from using a different method or email than at signup. Forgot it? Use the BeenVerified login and password reset link on the same screen. An "Unsure what email you used?" link shows the support number.
BeenVerified customer service
The BeenVerified customer service number is a toll-free line, listed in the FAQs below. Phone support runs on weekdays. You can also email support@beenverified.com. Many people look up the BeenVerified customer service number when they want to cancel. The BeenVerified customer service team can also help you find a lost account.
How to cancel BeenVerified
BeenVerified lists five ways to cancel:
- Email support@beenverified.com.
- Log in, open Contact Us and pick "Cancel My Account."
- Use online chat.
- Use the contact form with your nine-digit membership ID.
- Call the BeenVerified customer service number.
Signed up through the App Store or Google Play? Check your subscription there too.
BeenVerified opt out
Cancelling does not remove your own data from search results. Removal is a separate step. The BeenVerified opt out page lives at beenverified.com/app/optout/search. Use the BeenVerified opt out page to find your listing. Then send a BeenVerified opt out remove listing form. The BeenVerified opt out page asks for your name and state first. Confirm the request by email, then search again a few days later. A finished BeenVerified opt out remove listing request hides your public record listing from people search results.
Tips for a Better People Search
A few habits make any people search more useful.
- Start with the strongest clue. A phone number is often more unique than a name. If you have one, try a reverse phone lookup first.
- Add location. A city or state cuts a long list of matches down fast.
- Check relatives and ages. They help you tell two people with one name apart.
- Compare two reports. If a BeenVerified reverse phone lookup and a name search point to one person, you can trust the match more.
- Look at dates. Public records show when an address or number was last seen. Older entries may be stale.
- Know the limits. A BeenVerified background check suits private checks only. Never use it to screen a tenant or a job candidate.
- Verify before you reach out. A BeenVerified reverse email lookup shows a likely owner. It cannot show whether the inbox still accepts mail.
If the results look wrong or out of date, contact support. The BeenVerified customer service number also handles questions about reports. Want your own listing gone? Start at the BeenVerified opt out page.
BeenVerified Alternatives
BeenVerified is one of several US people search services. BeenVerified itself names PeopleLooker and NeighborWho as other options. Better-known names include TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Spokeo, Intelius and Whitepages.
They differ in search types, report depth, price, cancellation and opt out steps. Free options exist too. County court portals, state unclaimed property sites and assessor sites cost nothing.
Match the tool to the job:
- A full profile of someone: a people search membership.
- One public record: the government source, often free.
- A job, rental or credit decision: a screening firm covered by the FCRA.
- Whether an inbox still works: an email checker.
Where Email Verification Fits
People often run a people search because they want to reach someone. A report may list several emails. Some are current. Some died years ago.
A BeenVerified reverse email lookup report answers "who is behind this inbox?" It does not answer "will my message arrive?" Those are different checks. Email data decays. People change jobs and close accounts. A report built on older public records can still list dead inboxes.

BillionVerify Quick Verify checks one address at a time.
BillionVerify checks whether an inbox exists and accepts mail. It runs these checks:
- Syntax: is it written correctly?
- Domain and MX records: does the domain take mail?
- SMTP: does the server accept this mailbox?
- Catch-all: does the domain accept every name, so one mailbox can't be confirmed? We report catch-all as its own result. We never count it as valid.
- Throwaway and shared inboxes: is it disposable, or a role box like info@?
You get 20 free credits each day you use your account, up to 600 a month. They never expire. No credit card is needed. A valid or invalid result uses one credit. An unknown result is free. A re-check within 24 hours is free too.
