1. 00:00Intro

   An email validator and an email verifier answer different questions. Here is the difference, on one real test.

2. 00:11What a validator checks

   Start with the free Email Validator. It checks two things. Is the address well formed? And does the domain publish mail servers? Then it stops, on purpose. No SMTP. The note above the form says so. Try an address with no top-level domain, and click Validate email.

3. 00:29A typo, caught

   Invalid syntax. This is the job a validator does well. It catches a typo before anything else is spent. Now a Gmail address. This mailbox does not exist.

4. 00:39The address that passes

   Format and MX OK. Both checks pass. The format is fine, and Gmail publishes mail servers. But look at the third box. SMTP, not run. And the result says it plainly. This is not proof the mailbox exists.

5. 00:54What a verifier adds

   That last step is what a verifier adds. It asks the mail server about this exact mailbox. Run this same address through the Email Verifier, and it comes back invalid.
