How Smartlead handles verification
Here's how to prepare a list for Smartlead, so catch-all doesn't land in your main campaign. Smartlead has a verification add-on. It runs during campaign setup, right after you import a CSV and map the fields. One rule shapes everything else. Smartlead's guide says you cannot verify leads once a campaign is live. So the list has to be settled before launch. Here's the second thing. After that check, Smartlead sends to valid and catch-all leads. If both are in one file, they go out in the same campaign. A catch-all domain accepts mail for any address, real or not. So the server never confirms that one mailbox. We keep those leads out of the main send. So we sort the list before Smartlead sees it. Valid goes in one file. Catch-all goes in another. Two campaigns, not one.
Verify the list
Upload each list to File List Verify. If you run campaigns for clients, keep one file per client. Every job stays in History, under Files. Big lists run in the background. Some mail servers make you wait, so those addresses retry on their own. You can watch results arrive, and you get an email when the job is done.
Import into Smartlead
In your campaign, open Leads and upload the CSV. Smartlead maps standard fields like name and email on its own. You can map other columns as custom variables, up to 40 per lead. Set the verification columns to Ignore. Check three upload settings. Global Block List keeps blocked contacts out. Unsubscribe List keeps opt-outs out. Community Bounce List removes known bounces, and Smartlead recommends it. Then turn on high bounce rate auto-protection. It pauses the campaign at the rate you set. Smartlead's example is 5%, and the pause gives you time to investigate.
When something bounces
Smartlead separates two kinds of bounce. With a lead bounce, the address is the issue. With a sender bounce, the server refused the message, and the address may still be valid. Verification helps with the first kind. For the second, look at your domain, authentication and content. Smartlead adds bounced leads to its do-not-contact list automatically. For your own blocks, use the Global Block List. If you manage clients, add one entry per client. An unassigned entry doesn't carry over to client campaigns.
What it costs
In BillionVerify, each file shows what was charged, and what was free. Each result uses one credit, including catch-all and role. Unknown, bad syntax and disposable are free. File uploads need a paid account, and any credit purchase unlocks them.
