GMX runs several websites and offers several names after the @. The two main sites are www.gmx.com for English and www.gmx.net for German. Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain and the UK have their own front doors too.
This guide sorts out each domain, the endings you can pick at sign-up and the site to use. It also covers typos, fake senders and how to group entries in a mailing list. Every GMX fact comes from GMX's own websites and public DNS records, read on 27 October 2026. We are not affiliated with GMX. BillionVerify is an email verification service. For a short definition of the provider, read what GMX is in our glossary.
Key facts (checked October 2026):
- GMX's German sign-up page offers three endings, @gmx.de, @gmx.net and @mein.gmx, per www.gmx.net.
- GMX's English sign-up form on signup.gmx.com offers @gmx.com and @gmx.us.
- GMX's tariff page lists @gmx.net, @gmx.de, @gmx.at, @gmx.ch and @mein.gmx as standard endings, per www.gmx.net.
- GMX's Help Center says one GMX password applies to every address created in the same mailbox, per support.gmx.com.
- GMX names the same operator on both www.gmx.com and www.gmx.net, per their About and Impressum pages.
- BillionVerify does not charge for unknown results.
Which Domains Does GMX Use?
A domain can mean two things here. It can be the website you open, such as gmx.net. It can also be the name after the @ in an address. The two lists overlap, but they are not the same.
GMX Websites by Domain
We opened each name in a browser and followed the redirects.
| Domain | What we found |
|---|---|
| gmx.com | English. Opens www.gmx.com |
| gmx.us | English. Sends you on to www.gmx.com |
| gmx.ca | English. Lands on www.gmx.com too |
| gmx.co.uk | English. UK site at www.gmx.co.uk |
| gmx.net | German. Opens www.gmx.net |
| gmx.de | German. Forwards to www.gmx.net |
| gmx.at | German. Austrian site at www.gmx.at |
| gmx.ch | German. Swiss site at www.gmx.ch |
| gmx.fr | French. Lives at www.gmx.fr |
| gmx.es | Spanish. Spanish site at www.gmx.es |
Three names only forward: gmx.us, gmx.ca and gmx.de. GMX does not explain why it keeps them. A gmx.de email address does not need that website to work. On the Austrian and Swiss sites, the Registrieren link leads to a page that lives on www.gmx.net.
GMX Address Endings by Site
The ending is what follows the @. GMX's sign-up pages offer these choices.
| Site | Endings offered at sign-up | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|
| www.gmx.com | @gmx.com, @gmx.us | signup.gmx.com |
| www.gmx.co.uk | @gmx.co.uk, @gmx.com | signup.gmx.co.uk |
| www.gmx.fr | @gmx.fr, @gmx.com, @caramail.fr, @caramail.com | sinscrire.gmx.fr |
| www.gmx.es | @gmx.es, @gmx.com | registrar.gmx.es |
| www.gmx.net | @gmx.net, @gmx.de, @mein.gmx | The address box on www.gmx.net |
Here is how to read the table. Pick a gmx.com email address on the English, British, French or Spanish form. A gmx.us email address comes from the American form only. On the German form, a gmx.de email address is one of three choices, and a gmx.net email address is another.
The German page adds a note. It says that the domains on offer depend on country and availability. A longer list sits in a footnote of the tariff page: the standard endings are @gmx.net, @gmx.de/.at/.ch and @mein.gmx. So a gmx.at email address exists as well.

Screenshot: the tariff footnote that names the usual endings on www.gmx.net.
The sign-up box we opened offered only three of these. GMX does not say when it hands out a gmx.at email address at sign-up, or a gmx.ch one.
Premium Endings on gmx.net
Paid plans add more choices. GMX's premium list has eight classic endings: @gmx.com, @gmx.eu, @gmx.org, @gmx.info, @gmx.biz, @gmx.tm, @mail.gmx and @email.gmx.

Screenshot: the premium endings page on www.gmx.net.
The same page names 107 surname endings and 82 first-name endings, such as @schmidt.gmx. That makes 197 in all. GMX says ProMail and TopMail offer them. The last part, .gmx, is a top-level domain of its own, and mein.gmx sits under it.
GMX shows @gmx.com on both lists. It is standard on the English sites and premium on the German one. So a gmx.net email address can end in gmx.com after an upgrade. Likewise, a gmx.com email address can sit in a mailbox on either site. The ending alone does not tell you which one.
Endings Added as Aliases
GMX's English site says an alias can take another GMX name, such as gmx.us, gmx.co.uk or gmx.ca. That is how a gmx.ca ending can exist even though the gmx.ca website only forwards. A gmx.us email address can be added to an English mailbox the same way.

Your Own Domain
GMX Homepage & Mail lets you register a domain of your own. Addresses on it end in your name, not in a GMX name. Mail to them still reaches a GMX mailbox. Keep such entries out of your GMX group.
Same Account or Different Accounts?
One Mailbox, Several Addresses
Inside one mailbox, the answer is simple. GMX's English help says you can log in with any address you created for the account. One password applies to all of them, so an added gmx.us email address signs in just like the first. For a separate password or inbox, you register a new account.

Screenshot: the alias help page on support.gmx.com.
The first address cannot be changed or deleted, says the English help. The German help confirms it cannot be deleted. The limits differ by site:
- The English help says you can create up to 10 addresses.
- The German comparison lists 2 addresses for FreeMail, 10 for ProMail and 50 for TopMail.
A deleted address stays blocked. The English alias page says at least one year. The German help says at least five years.
Two Sites, One Operator
Both main sites name the same company. The About page on www.gmx.com and the Impressum on www.gmx.net each list 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, Karlsruhe branch. The sites still run separate sign-up forms and print different storage numbers. The English create page says up to 65 GB. The German FreeMail page says 1 GB. Our guide to GMX Mail limits compares them. So a gmx.net email address and a gmx.com email address come from one company, but not necessarily from one account system.
GMX's pages do not say whether a mailbox from one site can log in on the other. They also do not say how GMX stores the accounts.
What DNS Shows
Public DNS tells us where mail for each name arrives. We looked up the MX records on 27 October 2026 with public resolvers.
| Receiving servers | Names that use them |
|---|---|
| mx00.emig.gmx.net and mx01.emig.gmx.net | mein.gmx, gmx.eu, gmx.ch, gmx.org, gmx.biz, gmx.info, mail.gmx, email.gmx, gmx.de, gmx.net, gmx.at |
| mx00.gmx.net and mx01.gmx.net | gmx.fr, gmx.com, gmx.tm, gmx.us, gmx.ca, gmx.es, gmx.co.uk, caramail.fr |
| mx00.caramail.com and mx01.caramail.com | caramail.com |
The first group holds the German endings. The second holds the rest. One name breaks the pattern: gmx.tm is a premium ending of gmx.net, yet it sits in the second group. DNS shows only where mail arrives. It does not show how GMX runs accounts.
The server names you type into Outlook follow the site too. A gmx.net mailbox uses imap.gmx.net, and a gmx.com mailbox uses imap.gmx.com. Our GMX SMTP settings guide lists both sets.
Which Site to Sign In On
Our GMX login guide holds the full table of sign-in pages. Here is the short version:
- Use the site where you registered.
- English-language accounts start at www.gmx.com. German-language accounts start at www.gmx.net.
- Typing gmx.de or gmx.us only forwards you. It does not pick a different account.
- A @gmx.com ending does not settle it, because both sides can carry it.
- A gmx.at email address belongs to the German side, judging by its plan page and its mail servers.
GMX does not publish a rule for a login that fails on the wrong site. So rely on the help pages of the site where you signed up.
Typos and Look-Alike Domains
Most typos never reach GMX. The endings .con, .nte and .cmo are not top-level domains. A root-zone lookup returned no such names. Mail to gmx.con or gmx.nte cannot be delivered.
People also type gmx de or gmx net into a search box. In an address, the dot is required. Only the names in the tables above come from GMX's own pages. GMX can add more, so check its sign-up form when in doubt.
GMX's phishing help warns about forged senders. The sender often imitates a real GMX address with swapped letters, such as "serivce" in place of "service". The English page names two genuine senders: support@corp.gmx.com and service@corp.gmx.com. The German page adds that a forged sender can also match one that GMX really uses. GMX's contact pages show two more: digitalservices@corp.gmx.com on www.gmx.com and impressum@info.gmx.net on www.gmx.net.
Anyone can open a free mailbox at a GMX ending. So a gmx.com email address in the From line does not prove the mail came from the company. For a sender you do not trust, our reverse email lookup shows the domain, mail routing and public profiles tied to an address.
GMX Domains in Your Email List
If your list holds GMX entries, sort them before you send. Split each entry at the @ sign and group by what follows. These groups work well:
- German endings: each gmx.de email address, gmx.at email address and gmx.net email address, plus mein.gmx and gmx.ch.
- English, French and Spanish endings: every gmx.com email address and gmx.us email address, plus gmx.co.uk, gmx.es and gmx.fr.
- Name endings: the .gmx names such as @schmidt.gmx.
- Custom domains: your own domain on GMX Homepage & Mail, which looks like any company address.
Then fix or drop entries that end in a misspelled name. Those are the typos from the section above. A form that accepts "name@gmx.nte" gives you a dead entry.
Verify each group before a campaign. BillionVerify's email verifier checks one entry or a whole list. For a large file, use bulk email verification. What to know:
- valid and invalid results cost 1 credit each, and unknown results are free
- a free re-check is available within 24 hours
- catch-all entries get their own label and are not counted as valid
- the free tier adds 20 credits per active day, up to 600 a month, and they never expire
- there is a REST API, an MCP server and 25+ integrations
- the servers are in France (EU), and a DPA can be signed

BillionVerify checks each GMX address in four steps before you send.
If you collect phone numbers next to addresses, our phone checker shows whether a number is valid for its country. We make no claim about how GMX answers checks. Group first, verify, then send.
FAQs
Is gmx.de the same as gmx.net?
The website gmx.de is the same as gmx.net, because it forwards to www.gmx.net. As an ending, @gmx.de is one of three on the German sign-up, next to @gmx.net and @mein.gmx. A gmx.de email address looks the same in use. GMX does not describe any difference between them.
Which GMX site serves Austria?
GMX serves Austria with www.gmx.at. Its Registrieren link opens a page hosted on www.gmx.net. The standard endings include a gmx.at email address.
Does GMX have a French domain?
GMX has a French site at www.gmx.fr. Its sign-up form offers @gmx.fr, @gmx.com, @caramail.fr and @caramail.com. Mail for gmx.fr and caramail.fr arrives on the same servers as gmx.com.
Can a gmx.net mailbox have a gmx.com ending?
Yes, on a paid plan. GMX's premium page lists @gmx.com among eight classic endings for ProMail and TopMail, so a paid gmx.net email address may use @gmx.com. Free sign-up offers only three endings.
What is mein.gmx?
The ending @mein.gmx is a standard ending of the German sites. It sits under the .gmx top-level domain. GMX lists it beside @gmx.net and @gmx.de in its plan comparison and sign-up box.
How many addresses can one GMX mailbox hold?
One GMX mailbox holds up to 10 addresses on the English site. On gmx.net, FreeMail allows 2, ProMail 10 and TopMail 50. GMX applies one password to all of them.
Is every gmx.com sender GMX itself?
No. A gmx.com email address belongs to whoever registered it. GMX offers free mailboxes at that ending, so the ending says nothing about the sender's identity. Check the full sender address against GMX's published list.
